I chose to use a collaged picture of a painting I had worked on last spring to use for this first project. I liked the idea of making a whole from a collection of unrelated parts, since I used commercial magazines to collage the original picture. This lead me to think of other ways I could collage using video, expanding on the idea to consider making another version of someone's work using found materials. I wanted the video to mimic the methods I had used to create the picture, and especially was drawn to the idea of using found materials. This lead me to look for footage on youtube to use, and I decided to recreate a reading of E. E. Cummings' poem "Maggie and Milly and Molly and May" which has always been a favorite of mine.

In the Sea was based off of a collage I made of a painting using magazine advertisements. I liked this idea of using collage in video format, and used found footage from YouTube to recreate E.E. Cummings' poem "Maggie and Milly and Molly and May."
